Antibacterial and antioxidant activity of different extracts obtained from Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha)

Ashwagandha (W. somnifera) is widely known as the queen of Indian Ayurveda. The objective this study was to determine antioxidant and antibacterial activity different parts Ashwagandha. extracts from determined using DPPH free radical scavenging method. Ashwaghanda root inhabiting bacteria isolated pour-plate technique. agar well method filter paper were followed assess extracts. Ethanol-water (1:1 v/v) gave higher yield extractable matter than methanol fresh extract significantly other plant (stem leaves) material bought open market. minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values against MRSA, Candida Sp. Salmonella >256 mg/L. commensal (Bacilli Sp.) roots displayed mild pathogenic P. aeruginosa.
